Careers

What’s it like to work at KHQ?

We punch above our weight regarding the quality of our clients and the work available for our lawyers.  And the calibre of our senior staff means that juniors have the opportunity to learn from the best.

Our office environment is relaxed and informal, with an “open door” policy.  You’ve got a question?  Ask it!

We look after our people with industry leading paid parental leave and flexible working arrangements.  We recognise our people have lives and commitments outside KHQ, and while flexible working arrangements are talked about a lot by all law firms, we actually deliver.  Part time arrangements are respected.  Flexibility is true flexibility, not lip service.

We give our people plenty of opportunity to unwind and relax in each other’s company, with Friday night drinks every week, and EOFY and Christmas parties to rival the best (fancy a seaplane ride, or a chartered yacht cruise on the bay?).

We also support our people with their study and ambitions outside of work (we meant it when we said we’re flexible!), and provide many other ancillary benefits.

Our people also enjoy organising corporate teams for various sporting challenges and participating in community events, and we’re delighted to help them in supporting the broader community.

What do we look for in our people?

Strong academic performance and a sharp intellect are a given – and you also need to be able to think outside the square.

Away from academia, we look for people who are interesting, unique, engaging and lively.  We value cultural fit just as much as academic performance.

Graduate program

Applications to join our next graduate program will be open in around September/October 2023 (keep an eye on our LinkedIn page for updates). The interview process typically takes around 4-6 weeks, and out of that process, we will select two graduates to commence with the firm in 2024.

As a graduate, you will be assigned both a mentor and a buddy, to help you settle into everyday life at KHQ.  And be warned – for the first few weeks, you’ll be inundated with invitations to coffees and lunches, so you can get to know the firm and its people, and so we can get to know you.  You’ll be sick of caffeine by the end of it!

During your first year as a graduate, you will rotate through each of our practice areas to ensure you receive a thorough overview of what each area has to offer, to help you decide which area you’d like to venture into.  We’ll be with you every step of the way, to give you the guidance and support you need as you commence your legal career.

We’re proud to have nurtured some serious talent over the years, and if you think you have what it takes, send your CV and cover letter to recruitment@khq.com.au.

Current positions

Positions may be available from time to time, depending on people’s movements and growth within teams.  Once here, most people like to stick around!  We usually engage recruitment firms to manage this process on our behalf.  Occasionally we advertise on LinkedIn, so follow our page to keep up to date.

Work experience

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer work experience placements.
